These entries show Rainer [or Rainerius in Latin] as the tenant
of Robert son of Gerald [or Girold in Latin]
holding two estates of land comprising Fosbury
and another - Vitel's Town - the modern Fittleton
a few miles away on Salisbury Plain
Before the Norman invasion of 1066, in the time of Edward the Confessor
[T.R.E. or Tempus Rex Edwardus in Latin], these lands were held by two Saxons, Vitel and Alwin
